Pin by Peter Bauhuis

Peter Bauhuis (Germany) talks about being somewhere and marking that presence. About ways to tell yourself and the world – you are here. I am here. Am I only somewhere when I see myself on a map, when I perceive myself as a point on a territory, as if I were a falcon looking down on myself from above? And if I am where no one can see me, then the mark on the map materialises, gets bigger, heavier and instead of a little pin in the territory, it starts to weigh down our neck, turning into a pendant? I know where I am. But do I really? Anyway, in METALLOphone, where we talk about places all the time, Peter Bauhuis proposes a specific place on the exhibition map. There, by one of the white columns.

Artist says:

As the title suggests, this work is playing games with the idea of presence. What does it mean to be somewhere? Does the piece mark our current location or the place we wish to go? What are the differences between the digital realm and the physical world; and what does it mean to transfer something from one to the other, to remake an icon experienced as a two-dimensional image into a three-dimensional object?
